I am aghast that the President of the United States would admonish the American people for voicing their opinions of and concerns about the government of this country. Admonish? No, it was worse than that. You, in your usual arrogant manner, insulted millions of American citizens by declaring that we can't "love our country and hate the government". Did you feel the same way in 1968 and 1969 when you were lying your way out of serving in the military that you "loathed"? Did you feel the same way when you were organizing demonstrations against the United States government in a foreign country?
Mr. President, I most certainly do love my country, but I fear and despise a government that seems to regard our Constitution as somehow outdated, that wants to destroy private property rights, that appears to want to rescind our right to free expression of our opinions - especially opinions about our current out-of-control Federal government. You should be ashamed of your attempts to divide the American people and to pit group against group. You should be ashamed of your blatant political grandstanding at the expense of the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing.
Are you truly concerned about "hate talk"? Then you should pay close attention to the words of members of your own party...Rep. Charles Rangel and Rep. John Lewis, for example. Maybe you should have done a little research and learned that the original "jack-booted thugs" quote in reference to Federal agents was your very own John Dingel.
You have probably already gathered that I don't want to see you re-elected in 1996. However, I will offer you some advice: Quit bashing your adversaries and come up with some positive suggestions and ideas of your own. And quit your outrageous attacks on those of us who understand the Constitution and choose to stand by it.
